“Can colleges get it under control” by Karen Lee Scrivo
In Karen Scrivo's article he is addressing the reality of banning alcohol on college campuses. Banning alcohol on college campuses would be the right thing to do but is it possible to totally ban alcohol. The clash between legality and reality sparks debate on whether banning alcohol reduces irresponsible drinking or just encourages out of control off campus parties. The problem with campus drinking is when it comes to heavy drinking mainly with fraternities and sorority where binge drinking occur the most on campus. In other words, the leaders are participating in setting the norms of heavy drinking and behavioral loss of control. Most colleges know that it is impossible to ban alcohol completely on campus so some feel that the schools should change the message of the whole situation. Instead of claiming that college students binge drink they should try to open the students eyes on the dangers of alcohol abuse and get them to understand the situation then maybe they will become more responsible and drink carefully.
